The largest animal of all time is the blue whale (because the gravity we are subjected to out of the water would not allow such a large animal to move). However, the largest ever to walk on earth is a dinosaur. One that has just been named.
The largest animal has been baptized as Patagotitan mayorum , a dinosaur from the Cretaceous era whose mass was about 76 tons .
Patagotitan mayorum
The new study on this colossal dinosaur was published today in the Royal Society B. An aquetypic Patagotitan mayorum measured 37 meters long and 6 meters high.
A team led by Diego Pol from the Egidio Feruglio paleontology museum in Argentina points out that the dinosaur fed on plants and that:
All contenders for the largest dinosaur species were of similar size, within a 10 to 15 percent difference. This suggests that we are getting close to the maximum possible body size for a land animal, which was unknown until recently, and is an exciting discovery.
