These robots can join together to form larger ones or separate

As if they were a Transformer, a team of engineers from the Free University of Brussels has managed to create robots that are capable of joining each other to form larger ones or separating, maintaining the connection with the control system .

Furthermore, these modular robots are capable of self-healing, removing or replacing faulty parts.

Modular robots

The results of the engineers from the Free University of Brussels have been presented in the journal Nature Communications .

These are basically autonomous robots with their own sensors and actuators , based on the Linux operating system. In addition, as you can see in the following video, they can adapt their bodies by dividing and uniting to become new independent robotic entities, autonomously choosing appropriate shapes and sizes, in response to the task they have to perform or the environment.
