Envirobot , with the appearance of an eel, is a robot that measures 1.5 meters in length and that, thanks to its sensors, can record the state of the water and transmit the data to a computer.
The robot has been designed by researchers at the Federal Polytechnic School of Lausanne, in Switzerland.
By remote control
Among other sensors, the robot has thermometers and conductivity detectors. In addition, some of its modules harbor bacteria, cells and small crustaceans that change color when reacting with contaminated water .
Envirobot works through remote control, but it also has a certain degree of autonomy: each of its modules integrates an electric motor, which allows it to wriggle through the water without removing the bottom or disturbing the fauna.
